Questions and their characteristics

Help text, response scale, category, and ID – properties that make questions clear to respondents, easy to find, and functional within the system.

The concept of a question hardly needs an explanation, but there are a few characteristics associated with questions in the platform that are good to know. For example, what a help text, response scale, category, and ID mean. These characteristics make the questions work in the platform, easy to find, and clear for respondents.

Help Text

For each question, you have the option to add a help text. Help text typically includes an open instruction or information related to what the respondent is asked to answer. Here’s an example:

Question: Do you find it easy to be our customer?
Help Text: This question refers to [Company Name].

In this example, the help text includes the company name to ensure that the respondent evaluates based on your company (as phrased in the question ..to be our customer?). This makes the questions generic and versatile, but they may sometimes need a little help text. The company name is fetched automagically!

Response Scale

Different questions can have different response scales. At Brilliant, we use a 1-5 scale as default for our own quality-assured questions, but there are also several other options available depending on the nature of the question. Some examples include open text, yes/no, single select, and multiple choice.

Category

Questions in the platform are linked to categories so you can easily search and find the ones you need. A question can belong to multiple categories. Examples of question categories can be simplicity, proactivity, information, etc.

ID

A question ID is like a license plate on a car, unique. Each question has its ID in the platform, which ensures that questions are not confused and distinguishes between questions you create yourself and questions developed by Brilliant. You don't need to think about or specify the ID; the platform handles that for you.
